Well, as it says, still not dead, my life is simple, not (diabetes) complicated.
None at all in fact.
I decided not to wait out for the real overland trips, as I saw a camper I couldn't pass on. Not a 4x4, but good enough to spend summer getting to all the Scandinavian countries. Several thousand miles, and an experience no tour company could provide.
A small van.
No luxuries, and I'm not going to get too far if roads run out, (but ok on unmetalled roads, just not on no roads) but I decided to have a go to see if it works, and I've decided it really is an amazing way to travel and meet people.
It's amazing when you're the only english person for miles, and no one remembers a language they were taught in school 40 years ago, yet still manage to laugh over a beer.
Sign language is way better after several beers.
I'm still looking for a good overland truck to convert, but you know me, no waiting anymore.
So, an absolutely brilliant summer, just driving North to Sweden and Norway, then back again.
I met a lot of brilliant people, exchanged the usual details, and if I'm ever back that way, (Artic circle, and back down through Finland maybe?) I think a few stays, and a few drinks will be on the cards.
But next year the opposite way, Morocco, maybe the same truck, with my eye on a decent 4x4 for beyond that.
One day, Mongolia.
A proper drive!
