Been on metformin for nearly a year was changed to slow release about 3 months ago due to stomach problems I was still having stomach problems so they told me to reduce the dose to one twice a day for a few weeks so my stomach got used to it then to go back to taking one in the morning and two at tea I did this and the stomach problems have started again I was on glucosphage but now it's changed to bromalyn and for last couple of days been having stomach like cramps it's driving me mad but what alternatives is there ??
I too am on Metformin SR and had all the associated problems you get with Metformin - sometimes making sure I had unrestricted access to a toilet.
I have found taking them half way through a meal has reduced the side affects I was getting significantly, and I take 2 with breakfast and 2 with my evening meal
Previously I was taking them before or after meals, and I cannot say why taking them in the middle of a meal works for me, but it does
Hi. Some people have problems even with the SR version. If so it's probably time to give up on Metformin. It doesn't really have an equivalent but as it never has much effect I would concentrate on a low-carb diet and take it from there.
Update docs taking me back down to one in morning one In evening taking my bloods now and in 3 months to see if my bloods are ok they will keep it at 2 tablets if not they are going to try a different medication
