Stopped injections

DIABETES, I should be kicking it’s **** but it’s got a hold on me and can’t get out.
I have stopped my diabetes treatment,ie injections of slow acting humulin.
Mainly because over a couple weeks I went from taking 10 units daily to 56units to try bring down the levels but diabetic nurse said as the pen only goes up to 60 a day that’s all I could give myself therefore my BG will always be high. She used to ring me with a 30 second call saying just keeping putting up the humulin up by 2units every 2 days,then ring again in 6 weeks, now they have stopped.

So after 6 months of taking it, 4 weeks ago I quit. This last four weeks have been hell, I am now back upto 20 BG levels on waking and climbing but all help has been taken away unless I do as I’m told!! My mental health has taken a battering with all this but am not allowed to see anyone. Doctor will not even face to face with me until I back down.

Life sucks then you die!! At this point death looks the better option.

The pen does not only go up to 60 units a day, it goes up to 60 units a time for some pens. You can simply dial up again.
I use 100 to 120 units of long acting insulin a day (plus mealtime insulin), it's no problem at all, and my BG is not high.

Slowly titrating up as your nurse has said and like you've been doing is exactly the way to go, this is the way to find the right dose.

So your levels rose again when you quit the insulin, which shows the insulin was working, you just haven't found the right dose yet!

Please start taking your insulin again!
Those high numbers make you feel rubbish, not only physically but likely mentally as well.
When I had high numbers, my depression was so much worse, lowering them did wonders for my mental health.

I'm sorry your DN isn't helping you.

As @Antje77 said, you could give yourseslf two injections to increase the dose to more than 60 but there are also more concentrated forms of insulin for people who need large doses . (Some people need 100s of units a day)

What kind of insulin are you on? And are you able to test your blood or urine for ketones?

Are you being seen by the DN at the GP or by the hospital? I'm thinking that it might be worth trying to get a referral to the hospital if your nurse is finding your insulin doses too difficult to manage.

Diabetes is horrible and awful when your blood sugars are uncontrolled, but if you can get the dose right it should be manageable. Please don't give up.
