Hi. I'm Type 1. What would be the consequences of stopping my insulin injections and what would the timescales be? Thanks.

You would develop ketoacidosis and need prompt medical attention, probably within a matter of hours - depending how much basal you had on board.

depends if your pancreas is still spitting a bit, it may be a week or more before you go into a coma with a slow build up. you would need to google the life expectancy of diabetics before insulin

They only managed that on a starvation diet. It would have depended how long the honeymoon period was (mine was a about 6 months). I was unable to stand up for the 2 weeks prior to diagnosis so I can't imagine it would have been much fun living much longer.

yes, it's av 2 years post dx, so the pancreas is still working a bit and starvation basically was the treatment. ahh the good old days

Why would you want to stop insulin if you are Type 1? Or do you think you've been mis-diagnosed? Have you had the GAD antibodies and c-peptides tests?

The consequences are unimaginable, if your struggling with things you should talk to your gp or hospital diabetes team, please don't stop taking your insulin and do seek help.

Yes the main question is why would you want to stop your insulin injections?? When I used to miss atleast 1 I felt so rough, and I have had DKA before from running out of insulin and having none for 24 hours as I didn't realise I had none, so stopping your injection's is actually life threatening! so please don't!
