Type 2 Stopping medication

Hiya

I am currently on dapagliflozin but I have recently gone low carb & started exercising. My readings now are currently between 4.8 - 5.8 before and after food. I just wondered if its possible to stop the dapaglifozin or would my readings go high or would there be any side effects of stopping it?

This is a question you should talk to your GP about to make sure if it is safe to do so.

Great news that you’re bringing your numbers down. A number of people on here have successfully come off meds, but as the others say, best to take medical advice before doing so.

Does your surgery use e-consult? That can be great for getting a quick answer to a question, or organising a telephone appointment.
 
I have routinely got a telling off by my gp for stopping medication without consulting him.. me personally I just stop.. but that’s not the right thing todo


There is a possibility that you numbers will rise if you stop as the medication has to be having some effect… it’s a case of how much

As you numbers are not too low I would continue for now and try to get to speak to gp somehow

I normally get best results at the moment through econsult from my practice website
 
When I reduced and subsequently stopped metformin, I did tell my DN. I didn’t ask her, just let her know during our catch-ups and she plainly never bothered to take note because she keeps asking if I want to reduce my meds whenever we speak! Oh well. But probably best to keep the medics in the loop.

However, this very much seems a postcode lottery. I use econsult a lot now and actually much prefer it, but with how my autism presents itself, any option to minimise speaking to a human being verbally I go for. I can and do but personally it’s a lot easier to type with the added bonus I don’t forget to say anything hopefully when writing

@Lea76 speaking to your doctor is good, when I did this I did mention the blood tests and they were a bit wary, some doctors can be very anti-self testing but I did negotiate increased hba1c (3 monthly) temporarily with the idea that should those show a drop low enough I, and the dr felt comfortable with that I would reduce/remove my drugs. I had my drug free follow up yesterday, if my hba1c reflects similar (slight increase I’d be okay with) then I stay as am. I am considering any small increase to ask about going back to a small dose of metformin, I’m not anti drug, and hoping don’t need but have it in my mind if I need to

finger testing can help show a change but don’t necessarily reflect your hba1c and that’s what the doctors go on. So, it’s all your choice at the end of the day but I tend to think support and communication with doctors is better than misleading them
