Stopping Metformin

Hi I’ve been on Metformin Sr ( 1 tablet at breakfast and 1 at dinner ) for 6 months and my bs are back to pre/ diabetic level . I was lucky enough not to have any reactions to it apart from occasion constipation . I now find though that as I am still taking the meds my bs drops really low mid morning so before I have a chance to have lunch . Can I just take my one at dinner ? I know you can’t really give meds advice but maybe someone has found the same thing ??

As you say we can’t advise on dosage or whether you can stop your meds etc, but Metformin doesn’t really work like that - it’s a build up drug that stops your liver dumping too much glucose, when you say your numbers are dropping really low mid morning what numbers are you getting? I do keto and I’m on normal 500mg morning & evening, I get numbers between 3.8 & 4.5 around late morning - I eat my breakfast about 6 am, this is perfectly normal as allowing for my meters accuracy, plus being on metformin only you aren’t really at risk from hypos, your liver will do its job

Hi my numbers were 5.6 before breakfast . Breakfast at 8.00 and tablet then at 9 it dropped to 4 and the other morning it was down to 3 mid morning . Reading what you say I guess this is normal !! But odd for me !! Lol

3 is a little bit low and if I was that I would probably feel a little bit ropey, if I was very near lunch for me personally I would try and ride it out, or actually have my lunch if not I’d probably have a small snack like a couple of berries or a bit of meat or cheese. If you feel a bit shaky or jittery have a little something - just don’t go mad on the carbs would be my advice
