STRANGE CHANGE IN MEDS

I had a rather strange appointment with my GP last night. After him telling me how well "he'd" done getting my levels down, (ha ha), and after a seriously long pause he said i think i might take you off the insulin and leave me on just the Glucophage SR. When i asked him why he said that sometimes a course of insulin can "kick start" a pancreas into working again and you can go back to using just oral medication :?. To say i was gob smacked was an understatement. I went into the surgery feeling happy and confident about everything and by the time I came out i was totally destroyed and a jibbering wreck as i am today .

my current levels are 7 DAY = 5.9, 14 DAY = 5.4, 30 DAY = 5.8

Obviously these levels are a load of **** and, if he does take me off the insulin i can't wait to spend at least another week in hospital again and return to the horrendously ill feeling all the time. I truly have had enough i think i'll just stop taking all my meds as i now feel it's a waste of time. If i have numerous parts of my body amputated and infections set in then maybe i'll be rid of this **** hole of a world.

Let you know how i get on  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hazey,

Has he stopped your insulin prescription? You must get a new Dr or ask the nurse to prescribe.

Hope you get on OK.

Well, it is true that a period on insulin can rejuvenate your beta cells. Gerald Reaven found this out years ago.

The thing is, did he discuss the pros and cons of stopping the insulin and did you get a chance to say what your preferences were?

Thought not.

Many people think that jagging yourself so many times a day is the worst thing about having diabetes. It isn't.

What is worst is feeling hellish and being worried that you will go blind, need amputations and so forth.

I would go back to see him as soon as possible. Before hand have a think about what you want to do.

Saying something like, "You know doc, what really bothers me about diabetes is.......... The jags don't bother me at all. How can I best achieve........ with or without the jags?"
