Strange levels

Hi. I am T2 and have been a very bad lady for the past couple of years! However, since a review last week, am back on the straight and narrow and have been told to take 1000mg metformin at breakfast and dinner and half a Gliclazide tablet with dinner, if needed (was previously unmedicated). I'm currently on holiday but am also taking Coamoxiclav antibiotics for a chest infection. My bg readings have been great the last couple of days but are now going up again (12.5 just a while ago). Will I ever get back to being unmedicated or is this it for me now?

Welcome @Cc1974

Some antibiotics can put your blood sugar up, and if they've been prescribed for an infection then the infection itself may be causing higher sugars too.

Let me tag @daisy1 for some basic diabetes information as you're new here

Hello there, please do not be too hard on yourself - my levels are much higher than yours. Since I have had a large anaesthetic in mid August, my levels have been totally haywire. To be fair, I have also had far too many carbs, but I take a lot of tablets. I am hoping to have them cut down eventually but not possible yet. I believe that antibiotics can interfere with sugar levels but I am no expert. Stay strong and positive and well done for responding to your review. Keep at it!

Many thanks for your replies everyone. Just beginning to appreciate what a bizarre journey Diabetes really is! Everyone being different; strange things having wild effects on our blood sugars and no one in the medical profession having any definitive answers! Thank Goodness for you all
