Hi folks :D
i am type 2 gliclazide 2 x 80mg pre brecky 2 x 80mg pre dinner. Still testing 4 x /day. I have noticed over the last week that my fasting reading is well over 10 . and my pre bed is 3.8 this seems to be settling in to this pattern over the last 10 days .My diet is the same every wk and i'm just about losing 2lb / wk .Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem :?:
JF nice to be back

Hi Justfocus,
Do I take that to mean your morning reading is 10?
I found that when I was on the Glic and my levels got down within normal range that in the night I was going too low causing a liver dump for morning. The 3.8 pre-bed is too low.
I would suggest you speak to your nurse or doctor as you may be able to decrease your doseage. I have stopped taking it all together now and am just on Metformin as it was bringing my levels down too low all the time.

Hi angieg
my DN told me i was going to be on metformin about a month ago i'm still waiting. To be honest with you i think my DN is a waste of time. I don't even know what the glic does . let alone what it is. I havent seen or heard of her for a month .
I end up e-mailing my results to her at the surgery and thats about it . A lot of members on here ask me the same question "why are you not on metformin?"
i don't know !!!!
JF :?

I am no expert on T2, but those readings would lead me to believe that you are going low during the night.
When your pre bed readings are 3.8, do you treat them?
Is there any way you could perhaps set an alarm for during the night (2-3am) so you can check and see if your levels are indeed dipping?

To me, it sounds like a liver dump/dawn phenomenon, which is basically when there is an unaccountable rise of the morning (fasting) BM. It's called a liver dump as the liver releases it's glycogen reserve when the blood sugar levels fall too low. Some people's liver's are better at this than others - I know my BM has to sink to really low levels before any glycogen is released from trialling a continuious blood glucose monitor!

Let us know how you get on :)

Hi,
The Glic is used to lower your levels as it encourages the production of insulin or something along those lines. I was put on it straight away (as well as Metformin) as my blood sugar reading when diagnosed was 25....they risked the tablets rather than send me to hospital.
I was taking 2 a day and after a few weeks my levels came down within the acceptable range. I then did not need the lowering function.
If you explain to her that your readings are going too low regularly she should alter the doseage. I found after stopping the Glic my results levelled off more and I got less severe ups / downs.
