Hi folks,

This has not happened to me as far as I can remember: Before eating and after taking my glyclizide
at a usual 20 min. or so before eating, I am ready to eat with a "good" number -- e.g. 5-6. This time
I did not wait as long so I got a high number - 8. So, I waited another 15 minutes and to my astonishment
the number went up to 8.9.

I could not figure it out as the number should have declined, except that the second test was on my little finger and I had eaten some chocolate
before (bad I know). So, I washed my hands, dried them and callibrated the meter with the red gloop.
The number came to a good 6.6. I conclude that I may have had sugar left on my little finger.

The question is, can sugar left on you finger influence the blood sugar number?

Tx

Absolutely as your meter reminded you ! Always wash your hands before testing as even touching eg doorhandle ,ovendoor etc can make a big difference

Thank you Borterter. One gets sloppy with the routine after a 3x daily check. I appreciate your reply.

Definitely... Hubby had a doughnut in car years ago. He tested himself after.... Almost 20. I was ready to drive him straight to hosp..!got back home, washed hands and his reading was normal 4.5.. (He not diabetic)...

Done it myself too. Worse for me. I had prepared a dinner ( no sugar). Did test and was really high... Tested cos I thought I was low.... Corrected n gave more insulin cos machine said 14......wrong.. Had really bad hypo as I had not washed my hands and retested.....
