I thought it was a wind up but try a couple of grinds of black pepper over sliced strawberries.......flavour is amazing!!!

I think this, like putting butter in your coffee, is an experiment I'll leave to others. (and I am the person who happily held cubed Gouda under a chocolate fountain to see if cheese with chocolate was any good (before diabetes that is). It actually is!)

Someone once mixed my strawberries with tomatoes and put salt, pepper and balsamic vinegar over it. No. Just no.

It’s not a diabetes, low carb or Keri thing. My mum has added pepper to strawberries for as long as I can remember.
But it is an acquired taste which is not hereditary.

Hi,

It all probably has something to do with what the brain perceives from experince & what is also thrown into the "mix" (flavour wise.) sending & changing the sensory perception to the brain?

It's possible black pepper just brings out the "wow factor" in a strawberry with some folk.
Where as a dollop of cream "does it" for others..

I think I'm lost now. You're not saying you eat strawberries, black pepper, cheese and balsamic in one dish, are you?
Lol no - a couple of strawberries with a dash of pepper on a cheeseboard a bit like grapes - with balsamic just on their own or with leafy salad leaves.

Grapes with balsamic? Are we talking about the same thing or have I been living under a stone?
Vinegar on grapes?

Now I think on it it might actually taste good

No no no lol - use the strawberries as an accompaniment to a cheeseboard - a bit like you would use grapes. THEN completely different dish - have strawberries with a dash of balsamic either on their own or with salad leaves

I have always put white pepper on mine. My mum used to do this and leave them to soak it up before rinsing off and dishing them up.

Pepper on strawberries is delicious - just a little ground over them.
Balsamic vinegar, horseradish or grapes with cheese (but not all together).
I recently had a fab cheeseboard in one of those posh pubs, which had a strand of frozen redcurrants on it. Wonderful.

And who can forget that well known classic of rich fruit cake with cheese? Lush.

I love flavour combinations like that.

Black pepper on strawbs, done it for years.
Also for those without D can I suggest lemon juice and icing sugar on them?

Just remembered I have a quite delicious strawberry and black pepper gin in my cabinet - lovely with diet tonic - know what I'm doing Saturday night

happens that i had a spinach-strawberry salad just last night. Deli bought salad but was quite tasty with an interesting vinaigrette dressing. Has ni tomatoes but some toasted walnuts topped with just a bit of Parmigiano-Reggiano.

Just enough strawberries to accent without dominating the overall flavor.

I find I have to be a little careful with these lovely suggestions. A TV chef said that ground white pepper on mushrooms improves them. He is right but when you get addicted and use lots of pepper you can get cholic. So if anyone has a mystery stomach problem then use less pepper.
