Do you have a source? Not even google came up with a hit on 'pepper and cholic' and neither on 'pepper and colic'. Are you sure you're talking about colic/cholic and not just hearburn from eating spicy foods when not used to it?I find I have to be a little careful with these lovely suggestions. A TV chef said that ground white pepper on mushrooms improves them. He is right but when you get addicted and use lots of pepper you can get cholic. So if anyone has a mystery stomach problem then use less pepper.

Drooling.....Just remembered I have a quite delicious strawberry and black pepper gin in my cabinet - lovely with diet tonic - know what I'm doing Saturday night
Right, I will change it to a personal statement. A TV chef, possibly James Martin, said that white ground pepper worked well with mushrooms. Eating lots of mushroom omelettes as I did, I introduced ground white pepper and they did taste better. Over a period of some days I began to suffer windy stomach pains. These increased in intensity until it was quite severe and I realised I had to find the cause. I stopped using the pepper and the improvement was fairly rapid.Do you have a source? If others don't suffer a reaction to pepper then I feel good for them.
Interesting- I use a plate of fried mushrooms sometimes to "help me along" - they always work but I never knew whyI discovered the other day that mushrooms contain polyols, who knew? So eating a lot of them could be a cause. Just a thought.
If I don't put the pepper on them I am fine so that's a clue.I discovered the other day that mushrooms contain polyols, who knew? So eating a lot of them could be a cause. Just a thought.
