All,

My mom passed away very suddenly and totally un-expected last October and my meter readings shot up almost straight away to 13.3, I understand , not sure how mind you, that grief, anxiety and stress can lead to increases in your blood sugars. I have been testing myself a couple of times a week but the readings still show 13.3. I will admit that since that time (and with Christmas as well) i have put weight on and I lost the impetus to exercise (jogging up to 4k 3 times a week) so this may also have a bearing on the readings, plus i am now starting to stress about the readings so probably i am adding fuel to the fire. Prior to this event my BG readings were between 6.5 and 7.4, but it doesnt seem to matter what i do at the moment i seem to be stuck at 13.3 i have started to exercise again - walking 5k a day, but my worry is (and again this may be adding to the problem) if the rise is related to stress/anxiety how do i get the levels down ?

Grief Steve .... that (and stress) could well be a major factor and the FACT that you believe it is would be enough for me to work it out.

Heart goes out to you mate, but one issue at a time. This is you and your health. Your BS readings were halfway acceptable prior to and the loss of your mum have not helped.

Take some time out, reassess, and seek help if you need it :) My best Mike

Sorry to hear about your loss.
Yes, stress will increase your BG.

I've also found my BG and weight gain/loss go hand in hand.

If it's crept up, so does my weight. Over eating at christmas is something I was guilty of.
If I diet, (I simply eat less), I find my BG goes down as I lose weight.
I'm on my diet now, and both down are creeping down again.

So sorry to hear about your mom Steve. It's going to take time for things to settle down, in the mean time, be kind to yourself. It's great that you have started to exercise as this will help with both your stress and your glucose levels. Just take things one step at a time and you will get to where you want to be. Best wishes.

Thanks for all the replies, good to know I was sort of in the right area, with my own diagnosis :-). Mom went into Hospital Tuesday afternoon, had a call Wednesday morning to say she was in Intensive care, saw and spoke to her at 10 am and by 3.30 in the afternoon her ventilator was turned off, so a massive massive shock, turns out a small bowl infarction was to blame.

So sorry for your loss Steve . I lost my uncle last week after a fall put him in a coma . My bs shot up due to the stress and rushing about back and forth to hospital not eating when I should or the right things . It only been two days from his funeral and my bs are starting to get back to normal. You have to look after yourself and take one day at a time ask for support when you need it . I'll keep you in my prayers xx

Sorry for your loss Steve, But silly question, Have you tried another meter. As it seems strange that your stuck at same reading every time. I would expect it to go up or down over a 24 hr period.
