Type of diabetes
Type 2
Hi everyone, I’m new on here and could really use some advice. 6 months ago I was diagnosed with diabetes. The doctor says it’s type 2, my diabetes educator says it’s type 1.5. When I went to get checked my blood sugar was 29 and my blood pressure was 165/120. They have me on 10mg ramipril, 2000 mg metformin (1000 in the morning and 1000 in the evening) 28 units of levemir and 2 units of novorapid per 15g of carbs. I’m supposed to eat 45-75g of carbs per meal, but am keeping it to 30g max per meal. I’m not overweight and have a very physically demanding job and am very active when not at work. Up until about 2 weeks ago, I’ve managed to keep my blood sugars between 5 and 9. The last 2 weeks I haven’t had a reading under 10. My blood sugar last night before bed was 11.2. I took an extra 6 units of levemir and 3 units of novorapid without eating at bedtime. This morning when I got up my blood sugar was 13.6. I had a coffee with a little bit of milk and half a bran muffin totaling about 20g of carbs. I took 4 units of novorapid with it. 4 hours later my blood sugar was 17.9. Am not understanding what’s going on or what I’m doing wrong and it’s getting very stressful and frustrating. I don’t think levemir is doing anything at all for me, because 2 months ago I stopped taking it for a week and my fasting blood sugars were the same as they were before and after I stopped taking it. My diabetes educator just said “oh, it could take a few weeks before not taking it would have an effect”. I thought it’s out of your system in under 24 hours? Also my ramipril has done nothing for my blood pressure. It is still consistently high. Am feeling like I was just given a bunch of medication so the doctors feel better about doing their job, without them actually doing much if anything for me.

Hey Conrad, there are other things that you can do to lower your blood pressure, like controlling your salt intake, incorporate avacodos, broccoli, kale, quinoa into your diet. Watch what you eat and you can control your situation. Good luck, take care and God bless you.

I don’t use salt. I don’t even own any in my house, I don’t eat fast food or junk food, but do eat a lot of greens and vegetables.

Levimere does not last 24hours.. I am type 1 and use Levimere 20u injecting every 11hours it a horrible routine but from multiple testing upwards of 18 times a day 11 hours those 20u have fizzled out and need replacing.. Now that is me and all are very different but Levimere does not last 24hours .. Getting Basal (long acting) correct is the key... Type 1.5 is something i never heard of.

I am having a rough time with levimere. It never seems to do anything. I stopped taking it for a whole week once, and my fasting blood sugars were the same as when I was taking it. I’ve tried increasing the dose from 28 to 34, with still the same results. The only thing I’ve noticed that does work is the novorapid. I had never heard of 1.5 either before, I thought it was something my diabetes educator made up, till I did a search on it, which led me to this site. From what I have read and understand, it’s a late and slow onset of type 1 in adults, with similar symptoms to type 2 at the beginning, but eventually the body will completely stop producing insulin and you end up with type 1. There is no real cure or ways to reverse it like in some type 2, you just have to learn to manage it and keep it under control

perhaps you've answered your own question?

Speak to your diabetes team to help you find the right dosages. Have you been on a carb counting course?

Yes, have been shown how to count carbs, and I keep my carbs to under 30g per meal. Something my diabetes educator frowned upon, saying I should be eating a minimum of 45g closer to 75g a meal. I haven’t gained or lost any weight in 6 months. I have tried talking to my diabetes team. I just get told it takes time.
