I am a type 2 diabetic. I was first diagnosed in 2001. I followed the advice I received, dieted hard, got my weight down and kept it down, and my bg levels returned almost to normal. It was easily controlled for 10 years. However in late 2010 bg levels were rising and I had to go on tablets. Bg levels continued to rise and in March of this year my doctor put me on insulin.

In the run up to being put on insulin my bg levels got very high, pre-breakfast often over 20.
peak levels near 30. It was in this period that friends told me on two or three occasions
that I smelled strongly of urine. It was very worrying as there was no obvious reason for this.
Could the very high bg levels have caused it?

Hello Handyman and welcome:

Sorry I can not help BUT I am sure someone will be along soon and help you...Keep asking the questions...

I know when I have been unwell and my blood sugars have been high my pee does become really strong and smelly and I was advised that I should drink more fluids to weaken it. Don't know if this is what is wrong but try it as the diabetics nurses always advise you to do this when sugars are high to clear out ketones. Hope it helps.
