STRUGGLING TO MAINTAIN BLOOD SUGAR LEVEL

In the past year my meds have been changed and changed, so many times, its difficult to keep track. Many meds give me side effects, and isolating which drug is causing which side effect has been a real problem. Suffice to say canagliflozin did not work for me. Dont know if anyone else has been in that boat. The conclusion draw was that I was not producing sufficient glucose so trying to extract it out of my system was not going to work. They just about gave up on me which meant insulin was the next step when they agreed to reintroduce glicazide 40mg after lunch, since it was dinner and evening time when my blood sugar levels were into double digits. This seems to work but I am not sure why I am not taking one after dinner as well.

From the journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Science.

Gliclazide is an oral antihyperglycemic agent used for the treatment of non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). It belongs to the sulfonylurea class of insulin secretagogues, which act by stimulating β cells of the pancreas to release insulin.

Sulfonylureas increase both basal insulin secretion and meal stimulated insulin release.

Sorry for some over complicated jargon but the jist of the high lighted bit is that increased amounts of insulin are being produced continually as well as at meal times. There is a small chance of hypoglycemia and maybe a reason for not taking in the evening. Probably worth asking your GP but I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. When I took Gliclazide I did experience a hypo on 2 occasions but the most annoying side effect for me was a 10kg weight gain.
