Struggling with high readings

Hi I am on 2 X 1000gm metformin a day and supplemented with insulin through the day. I have been unwell with a cold for the last 6 weeks and my blood sugars have been between 18 and 34.6. I have the classic symptoms of hyperglycimia. I am sick of feeling so ill.Thirsty all the time,loo 4 times a night,tiredness to the point of exhaustion. Any advice welcomed
