Hi Guys,
Hoping someone can shed some light,
I’ve been t1 for 25 years now, no health problems so far but poor control until recently,
Since I’ve got my bg well under control, I’ve been struggling with my balance also my legs are very tired it feels like I’ve done a 5 mile run all of the time.
It was like a switch 4 weeks ago I was playing football 3 times a week to now not able to.
Has anyone else had this?

Hi,

I get a similar issue with my arms and legs. They feel all stiff and painful as it I have been working out in the gym. My diabetic consultant said I have peripheral neuropathy, and offered medication which I refused. I’ve been type 1 for 15 years and only recently started to try and control my condition, which is one of my regrets in life, as I have issues with my eyes and blood pressure due to poor control. Nerve damage progresses very slowly so there is still hope for me.

Sounds like you have good control of your BS so we’ll done!

It does sound like Peripheral neuropathy but you can ask for nerve conduction studies to put a scientific number to that possibility. O've just been recommended Benfotamine - the synthetic version of Vitamin B1 - to ...erm... work magic for this and to protect organs from the ravages of oxidation which occurs with glycation of the blood (we all know that happens to those with lack of insulin or insulin resistance... or both). so I'm off to the shop to buy some and give it a go for 6 months; I was also told that it needs to be done in conjunction with balanced glucose levels.

My story is that after 30 years of following HCP advice - to eat carbs and inject and monitor and act on the feedback loop - which would apparently miraculously balance glucose levels I decided to ear hardly any carbs and now my HbA1c is 42mmol/mol and my Libre tells me it is closer to 30mmol/mol (5.0%) on this ketogenic lifestyle so I'm really hoping that the Benfotamine will help me regro nerves - my goal for my 60th birthday in 10 years time!

Hope it goes well for you

Hi and welcome!

my suggestion is to get to a doctor and get checked out. There are a few non D related things that can do this, and you need a professional opinion.

please let us know how you get on?
