Hi everyone, I’ve been advised to seek help from this forum to help me with my journey...

I’m 48 female, always been a bit overweight but having 4 kids in 6 years took its toll. I’ve gained 4 stone that I want gone ! ( eek my youngest is now 10yrs so this is a bit overdue)

My nurse is concerned for me as my blood pressure is too high and I need to address this NOW !

I’m committed to improving my health , I’ve followed the lo carb plan for just over a week which has been hard but ok but I haven’t lost any weight yet ☹️☹️ Is this normal or am I doing something wrong ??? I’m on approx 50g carb per day.

Thankyou for any advice xxx

Hi Welcome to the forum.

I'll tag in a few helpful guys to say hello, who can give a little advice from experience who may help you.

Thanks for the tag @Jaylee and welcome @CJ48

You’re definitely in the right place for support! Am giving some advice assuming you’re type 2 and not on any diabetes medication other than metformin. If that’s not right, shout and we can adapt our thoughts!

First piece of advice, don’t weigh too often and secondly (I really wish I’d done this), don’t just rely on the scales to measure progress. Take some measurements too - waist, hips etc. Sometimes even when the scales don’t move, your body does - just this week, I did my monthly weigh in. 1lb heavier than last month, but 2cms off my waist. That really helps with motivation to keep going.

Also at the start, my weight loss was very slow indeed. I was watching carbs, but still eating several times a day, including snacks. As I adapted to low carb eating I naturally started eating less - dropping snacks and eventually fewer meals (but that was a fair bit later).

I’d say that sticking to low carb, being consistent will reduce your blood sugars, and likely your blood pressure too. Weight loss may then follow, but keeping the blood sugars in check is the most important thing you can do.

Have you seen the dietdoctor.com website? It’s a great resource with recipes, information and meal plans. You can get everything you need for free, although there are some paid options.

And finally, do you have a blood glucose meter? That’s an important tool so you can see the impact different foods have on you.

I second the don't rely on the scales advice. Get good leather belt, mark which hole you are on now. Within months you will be having to punch new holes.
I have gone down 7 holes. The jeans (stretch ones) seem to have shrunk with me, but the belt doesn't lie.
Currently my scales are lying to me. They say I haven't lost in the past three weeks, but my belt is loose AND my watch strap needs adjusting for the 3rd time in a year

One week is not very long. Your body needs to heal. Just because you have set your mind to low carb your body need time to adjust.
If you could tell use what an average day of eating looks like,we can offer suggestions on how improve
