STUCK!

This is my second time injecting insulin. Ran into a problem this morning. The screw on needle cap is stuck inside the pen cap. Is an eli lilly insulin pen. I have tried, pliers, tweezers, twisting it clockwise and anti clockwise and the thing just spins! So I can't discard the needle head on the pen. Also can't replace the cap on the pen as it just spins. Anyone else had this problem? What was your resolve? I've currently got the pen cap sitting in a glass of hot water to see if that will work. I'm out of ideas!

have you something else you can put the usable part of pen in ?
then use as normal
if not then get rid and use another pen

PROBLEM SOLVED! It was with brute force and a dental pick I jabbed it in to the cap yanked it out! Then came the next problem getting the needle head off the pen again brute force with some gripper mat and a pair of pliers. Now entire needle head is discarded and pen top back on insulin pen. YAYY!

The needle was still on the pen; the actual cap of the needle was stuck in the pen top. It was like vaccumed in there. I used the dental pick and it poked a hole in the cap and was able to pull it out! Just glad I've not had to discard the entire pen! PHEW! All back to normal again.

Yes it is a disposable pen. Thought I was going to have to ditch the entire thing!

The lilli pens from memory do taper at the cap like a bullet?
So I can kinda see how it jammed.

With a disposable pen, if you lose the pen cap, simply get a pen cap from the next pen in the fridge and use that.

Do you reuse your needle?
Many do, but it's recommended you don't, they're designed for single time use. I keep some pen needles with my pen and screw a needle on before injecting, and I take it off to discard right after.
