Often weight loss will plateau, it's frustrating but it can happen for no reason and then come right again sometimes. How many grams of carbs are you eating each day? Do you know how many calories you are eating?

Not really sure on the calories but everything I eat is under 5 carbs

Well done on the carbs. It might be worth listing out a typical day's food and adding up the carbs and calories. Then you have an objective way of seeing if you are eating low enough carbs and calories to lose more weight.

At the moment I am getting away with not doing this because I have so much to lose, but I know I will reach a plateau at some point and will need to look more closely at things and probably reduce a bit further. So far I have lost 7lb but I want to lose at least 60lb overall. It's easy at the start when you are quite overweight but for someone of your smaller size it can get challenging.

Thanks for that will give it a try .

I have a book called carbs and cals it's available from Amazon. I use it together with myfitnesspal to keep a check on what I eat, it has helped me immensely.

Thanks I will have a look at that

Hi Amanda. I have exactly the same problem. I dropped from 97Kg to 85Kg on a very low carb diet but for two weeks now I have stuck at 85Kg. My BMI of 27 is not obese but is still overweight. Why won't it keep coming off?

Upside: Don't know about you but losing 12Kg (36lb) reduced my BG to normal levels. It is now in the 4's and after eating goes up into the 5's then quickly normalises. Once this started happening I decided to come off all meds and have not needed to return to them. BP also returned to normal. I have been on blood pressure meds for 20 years. Imagine! I don't think Doctors give anything like radical enough advice.

Now, I think the stuck weight is because of turning fat to muscle which is heavier. That's all I can put it down to. I am doing thirty stairs x 2 daily, 20 sit ups for belly and 6kg weights for arms and torso - all twice daily. I swim 40 lengths x 2 per week. I am very frustrated that my weight is not continuing to drop, but I think it may be to do with building muscle. Could this be the same for you?
One key weight reducer for me has been to give up alcohol. Also no bread, potatoes, rice pasta. My question is - once all the fat is gone and reasonable muscle built, will I still weigh in the overweight spectrum even though it's muscle not fat. I'm wondering if those gross looking bodybuilders are intact very overweight though it is all muscle??? Curious isn't it?

Do you have a tummy, or is your weight evenly distributed?

People report plateaus of months, sometimes.

There are a few different options

- wait it out
- up the exercise
- fat fast
- intermittent fast
- vary intake over different days
- cut more carbs and up the fat

The most important thing to remember is that this is not a weight loss diet regime.
It is a lifestyle, long term way of eating.

Plus, my experience has always been that the faster it goes, the easier it is to fall off it, and then the rebound weight gain piles back on.

Mainly tummy

In that case, I would say it is likely you have visceral fat, which should, provided you have your regime right, go, in time. Let's face it, unless you are doing mega, mega tummy exercises, that (fat) isn't going to go to muscle, and there's only so much bulking up your legs will do, based on the stairs or swimming.

Just be patient. In reality, you're likely to be stuck with largely your new way of eating for the balance of your life, so don't torture yourself any more than you can keep up. The odd few days of extremely strict won't do any harm, provided it didn't drive you to a rebound over indulgence.

I didn't weigh myself for 3 months, post-diagnosis, so I have no idea if my loss was linear or if I had plateaux. I only had one single objective, which was to control my bloods by modifying my diet and continuing to incorporate a fair bit of moving around.

On another thread, you alluded to being abroad. Are you routinely somewhere warmer than UK? (Yes or No is fine if you don't want to say any detail.)

Pilates is great for rediscovering your dormant muscles under the blubber. My stomach isn't perfectly flat but I can see muscle now yay.

Hi, yes that's an interesting point, its only over the last two weeks I have been doing 350 sit ups a day (as this is my problem area).

you have been so helpful to me. you are right. patience now and introducing new fun athletic activity i think is the answer. i really can"t eat any less. my employer is worried about my weight loss. today they brought me chicken and rice at lunchtime. i protested but they said 'they wanted me strong' and i should eat more. i am in africa where it is culturally attractive to be fat (and t2 is increasing. also my clothes don't fit anymore and i think that makes you look ill rather than healthily weight adjusted! i can"t afford to buy new clothes. anyway main thing is my BG is now aways in the 4s or lower 5s post perandial - and off meds. thank you friend...
