Stupid Question?

I hope it's ok to ask what may be a stupid question.

If you don't drink enough (especially in this challenging weather) does your blood get more concentrated and therefore your blood sugar also, potentially giving a higher reading?

Sorry if I'm being dim.

If you are dehydrated then yes that could be so. However if your kidney function is normal then your urine will be more concentrated to preserve your fluid balance and if there is excess glucose that will be filtered out. I never drank much: The family joke was that I was a reincarnated camel as they all drank copious amounts of tea and I hate tea so drank about a quarter the amount they did. I now make the effort to drink more as diabetes affects the kidney so I don't want to end with renal failure.

Thanks for the reply. I also have never drunk a great deal and have to try and force myself. My kidneys are fine as far as I'm aware.

In this hot weather you have to remember to drink more. I have coffee while I am cooking/preparing my meals and then have another one with my meal and try to remember to have a drink between meals (but often forget)> I just don't ever seem to get thirsty!

Viscosity of blood can vary. High BV can increase risk of strokes.

"
The present study shows a direct relationship between BV and blood glucose in nondiabetic
subjects. It also suggests that, even within glucose values considered completely normal,
individuals with higher blood sugar levels have increased BV comparable to that observed in
subjects with prediabetes."

We are all different so can only give my experience . I can go a whole day without drinking and rarely get thirsty so I have to force myself to drink. I know when I do not drink enough my blood sugars increase not sure of the exact physiology involved but there is for me a direct correlation between hydration and blood sugars .
