To me that isn't inspirational, it's irrational, and letting his family down. (akin to smokers who won't give up, more often it is the ones they leave behind that are hurt the most) Especially as he was already a great olympian.

If that were true, agreed, not good. But I'm pretty certain it's not true... firstly, not sure how you could compete at that level if you were physically close to organ failure, but also, I was lucky enough to meet members of his support team a few years ago - including his (doctor) wife, who headed up his medical team, and they were certainly not talking about him going against their advice or being unwell. On the contrary he was extremely healthy.
Maybe it was a documentary about someone else OR maybe the journos wanted to build up a story that wasn't there? His wife was pretty amazing, very much behind him and not the kind of person who would drive her husband to do something that was bad for him just for medals.

I get all of these famous and inspirational stuff (people like Sir Steve Redgrave fair enough / Halle Berry? Come on, she does not inspire me).

What inspires me is when you see you kids dealing with the illness and learning to inject themselves / monitor their blood etc......Khaleb's mum (from this site) she is a massive inspiration for me (as is little Khaleb)...when you stop and think what they go through every single day just to get through the day, that stacks up to far more than some gold medals and an Oscar....deserves a million gold medals in my opinion...

Wow. Just read this thread. Nikki Wallis sounds quite impressive, theres hope for us all yet. I've finallly gotten back to working with racehorses again and it gives me confidence and reassurance to knoe that there ate others out there doing much more demanding jobs and coping well!

Really? I've read an awful ot of articles which say he does? not sure if he's 1 or 2, but can I ask why you are so sure he is a non diabetic?

Sir Steve Redgrave and I had the same diabetic consultant for several years, a guy who specialises in helping people carry on with sport despite being T1, particularly elite sportsmen and women. He is also the guy behind the Run Sweet organisation dedicated to this purpose. Knowing him as I do (did), I very, very much doubt this doctor would have continued to work with Redgrave if Redgrave had not followed his advice and guidance to the letter.
