If that were true, agreed, not good. But I'm pretty certain it's not true... firstly, not sure how you could compete at that level if you were physically close to organ failure, but also, I was lucky enough to meet members of his support team a few years ago - including his (doctor) wife, who headed up his medical team, and they were certainly not talking about him going against their advice or being unwell. To me that isn't inspirational, it's irrational, and letting his family down. (akin to smokers who won't give up, more often it is the ones they leave behind that are hurt the most) Especially as he was already a great olympian.
