Sudden blurred vision, headache and joint pains

Hi everyone, I have just joined the site. My daughter is 12 and was diagnosed. 6 weeks ago with having type 1. She has in the last couple of days had all insulin taken off her due to daily hypos. Her general hypo over the past 6 weeks was a bit shakie and that was it, treated and went away. But twice this week she has had a sudden bout of blurred vision followed by sore head, joint pains and feeling sick & very warm! Once was with a blood sugar of 3.6 and the other 15.2
Does anyone else suffer this sudden reaction?

Hey scooby, haven't heard of his before, is she taking any insulin at the moment ? Also is the insulin she's been taking plus the pancreas still working a little playing havoc with her blood glucose ? So this is why the doc has taken it off her ?

Sounds like a call to the doctors tomorrow as this isn't a usual side effect.

Yes the novo rapid was causing an instant hypo and the levemir was reduced and taken away as it was causing a daily hypo.
The blurred vision etc with the 3.6 came while on levemir.
Yesterday while off insulin her sugars started at 5.6 to 11.7 back to 5 and rose to 15.2 that's when the blurred vision headache aches etc occurred. This diagnosis has not gone as expected.

Generally when the sugars are high blurred vision does happen a lot so that is normal, remember to get her to drink plenty of fluids particularly water when this happens as it helps to flush the system, also what are you doing to treat the highs, are you giving her a corrective dose of quick acting ? And have the doctors advised how much to give ?

A good book for you to get is Dr Bernsteins Diabetes Solution, this covers lots of questions about type 1 so a handy reference particularly when the doctors aren't open ! Otherwise come on here anyone around will their best to help.
 
I treated the high with 1 unit of novo rapid.
She had a sugar of 5.4 when she got up and an hour after brunch she was 5.4 still and 5.0 before dinner.
No insulin today at all
She had a sleep over on Saturday night think this played a big part in the high last night.
I find it strange how a honeymoon period can deliver bloods so normal without insulin.

The honeymoon period can be very taxing.

If it was me I would still give a tiny dose of Levemir or Lantus, just 1-2 units, to ensure she doesn't go high again.

The levemir was causing a hypo daily and I recon confusing the pancreas since coming of all insulin her reading are like a non diabetic (apart from last night). I do believe the high occurred from lack of sleep and grazing on the wrong food. Tonight we are reading 5.6 after dinner but have had a routine day.
I am aware of the honeymoon period can do rare thing, but her type 1 was confirmed on a sugar of 25, keytones present and thirst, she had no antibodies test done. I am wondering if anyone has been told they are a Type 1 but actually glucose intolerant?

Hi Scooby!

This must be very difficult and worrying for you. During my 'honeymoon period', I was on no bolus and only 1 or 2 units basal every two to three days. Sadly, I wasn't cured; my pancreas was just relieved to have a bit of a break and kicked back in for a while. Your daughter is not cured - neithr is she misdignosed - it won't be long before she needs that insulin increasing again. As Spiker says, I'd give a unit of Levemir every day or every two days - it will settle down eventually.
