I hate when this happens to me.... happened again this afternoon... a sudden drop in my BGL.

I was about to have a coffee and snack and tested BGL to find I was too low anyhow. I then had some quick acting carb (juice)... 5 mins later I'm even lower. I then have some more quick acting carb... still testing and it's dropping further. About 15 mins later it started to come up by .3. It just makes me panic a bit when this happens as I'm trying to avoid it dropping any further. Having a headache for days and a hypo on top of it makes me feel like I'm going to pass out. It perhaps may have something to do with my stomach problem too.

No doubt I've probably overdone it on the quick acting carbs and I'll shoot up too far the other way a bit.

Does this happen for anyone else? How do you handle it? Any tips.

This is not an explained hypo for me as my lunch wasn't new and insulin dosage is fine with it usually.... maybe my headache is zapping my energy or something?

Hi

I don't know what your stomach problem is but some problems with stomach/intestines can affect the rate at which carbs enter the system as sugar.

hi Doug

I'm still under investigation for the stomach issue... so far they've found I have a hiatal hernia... although no agreement as such what is causing my symptoms. I'm into my 5th year now without any real answers... just a lot of symptoms and it's pretty much ruining my quality of life. Common sense tells me it's the hernia as that is where all the pain is and I get very bad oesophageal spasms. Had one last night actually... so bad I couldn't breath properly... my entire gullet is aching from top of pallet down to my upper sternum. I saw my doc today and have to take time off work and rest for a few days and take analgesics. I have very bad burping problem too... day and night. I had another hypo last night when I finally did get to sleep. Doc tells me today that he thinks my stomach definitely is causing problems for my diabetes. I'm waiting to see another specialist now (3rd opinion).... one of the best here too I've been told... so hopefully I'll be able to get a resolve and proper treatment soon. :)

I hope that the next specialist will have the answer for you. I have gastro oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and had an op for it nearly 20 years ago. I now take omeprazole to reduce the amount if acid in my stomach and that takes away the pain in my gullet.

Let us know how you get on at the specialist.

Take care

Doug

thanks Doug :D

I've been on about 10 different medications already without huge success. They've trialled about 3 types of anti-depressants for my stomach at one point, all of which I had bad reactions to. I'm currently on domperidone and esomeprazole which is helping with acid reflux... but I'm still left with a few other symptoms.

Will be very happy to have this sorted for sure.... hopefully I can then feel some normality again despite the diabetes.

Will certainly post outcome.
