Hia - since Monday my insulin requirement has reduced by quite a bit. So far I'm on about 5 units less per day but I'm still hypoing (on pump so it's all fast acting Novo Rapid). I'm not complaining but it's a bit difficult to know how much to keep reducing and for how long for as i have 11 basal rates set up for 'normal' days.
Does anyone know why this happens out of the blue? I'm back on ABs since last Saturday for ongoing bacterial skin infection but I didn't think ABs dropped blood sugars?

As usual I can't give specific answers, only an idea to what might be happening...

AB's themselves don't drop blood glucose levels, but because they tackle the infection that can cause our blood glucose levels to rise, which give the impression that they can drop them!

I see that you started your AB's on Saturday and your dropped kicked in Monday, which just happens to be the point where AB's have built up enough to really start impacting on any infection...

So it may well may be that your drop is the AB's are doing it's job and clearing your infection.. Hopefully your drop will settle down now as you either finished or nearly finished your BG course, so it will spend the next few days just mopping up the last remnants of the infection..

Thanks Jopar. That makes sense. The only drawback with the infection Ive got is that I'll be on ABs for a least another month so lets hope, as you say, that they have already done a lot to start ridding me of this **** thing and I'll see sugars plateau over the next few days.

I haven't the foggiest idea why, Jopar's explanantion may be right. I did notice a T2 on antibiotics the other day who had noticed a fall in levels.
Hope the infection clears up quickly.

Have you suddenly increased activity levels or have you had a significant change in your diet or lost weight?

Exercise seems to be the biggest determinment of insulin sensitivity for me but i also noticed my need for insulin reduce quite drastically once lost a small mount of weight and cut down on fat.

Don't know anything about AB but i think in "think like a pancreas" it does mention how certian medicines can affect your BS levels so that could be a factor.

Thanks all for replies. No change in diet, work or excersize - all very normal. Although I do get a bit over excited when I buy a new pair of shoes :D
