ok so i just wondered what other people feel is a ideal sugar amount in food im still new to this and i constantly obsess about sugar i look at everything that i eat and see what the label says but when i see somthing with say 7 grams of sugar in i always think that i cant eat it coz it seems high i have which makes me feel really limited to what i can eat i know that carbs are the main facter i bs rise but i still feel overwhelmed. does aybody else do this or feel this way?

Angelbite, I agree it can be very difficult to come to terms with the fact that your worst enemy is not sugar but carbohydrate.

There are two types of carbohydrates - simple carbs and complex carbs. Simple carbs are all the different types of sugars (sucrose, glucose, fructose, lactose, sorbitol, maltitol - in fact anything that ends in "ose" or "ol" is a sugar). The simple carbs are immediately absorbed into your bloodstream so will cause an immediate raise in your blood sugar. The complex carbs need to be digested in the stomach before they are converted into sugar in your blood, so they raise your blood sugar but more slowly.

When you look at food labels you need to look at the amount of carbohydrate listed, not the amount of sugar. All the sugar value is actually telling you is how quickly your blood sugar will rise, not how much it will rise by.

Strictly if it ends in ~ol it's an alcohol ~oses are sugars and some complex carbs such as cellulose, whichich is indigestible fibre. It's particularly the 6 carbon sugars and their polymers, which are BAD
Glucose is a 6 carbon sugar. Maltose and Starch are polymers of it.
