Ally - I would be a little careful of fruit to begin with.oh i hadn,t thought of putting mandarins in the jelly
I often eat half a diet jelly with breakfast.Ally - I would be a little careful of fruit to begin with.
I must admit, I have made up some jelly this evening. I don't eat desserts, or snacks, but today, I sort of felt the "need". I'll probably have gone off the idea, by the time it has set, tomorrow.![]()
If you are concerned about using beetles for red food colouring, look for either cochineal or E 120 (same thing)I too like sugar free jelly but stopped eating when I heard they made somthing in the jelly with beetles yukkkkk
If you want to eat a full sugar free jelly ally you can, I like to make mine a bit firmer so only make it up to just under 3/4 of a pint, it intensifies the flavour
Like others have said be careful with the fruit as this alters it from carb free to having sugars in it, maybe top it off with a couple of berries as you eat it rather than add it as you make it,
Forge has suggested lychees, while they are delicious they are little sugar bombs at 1.5g of carb for a single fresh lychee and about 45g for a tin
Hardly low carb!
Errr quiteErr not quite, I suggested tinned lychees and I believe all tinned fruit is canned before it is fully ripe. We can drain the syrup (they add sugar.because they are not ripe)
It is interesting tho, the carbs might still be in the fruit and when it ripens it gets converted to sugar. But anyone wanting to find out the bottom line can simply test for spikes.
Thanks for that, maybe I need to count how many per tin and maybe only eat 3 at a sitting with 1/2 a diet jelly. I have not eaten them since I went no Major carbs.
Totally agree with you forge, pretty much the way I eat apart from the cakes as I'm not really a cake person, I have found my tolerance to carbs has increased during my weight loss. Thanks for that, maybe I need to count how many per tin and maybe only eat 3 at a sitting with 1/2 a diet jelly. I still want some carbs in my diet and I want to lose weight slowly without BS spikes. As my weight has come down (as predicted by my Specialist) my carb tolerance has increased.
In fact, our household is eating more tasty food then ever before and more cakes and some with icing and we have revised our cooking techniques and use the stove less. So food-wise life is tastier and easy.
For me/us a few carbs is ideal, be it tinned fruit or a banana (which I eat daily because my potassium was low)
The ultimate aim for me is good health, for others it might be weight loss, but for me it is good health while having a fun time.
