Sugar level still high
Hi
I am very concerned about my father in law he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 6 years ago which was being controlled by metformin 850mg 3 times a day but it reach a higher level (20-25) they then put him on Gliclazide 160mg twice a day which did bring it down for a while but then it started going back up to a high level (20-25) and he is now having Exenetide injection 5 micrograms twice a day. They put him on the injection about 8 months ago and his surgar level came down to about 7-8 but his sugar level still seems to gone back up again (14 to 18). He is a very large man with a lot off aches and pains so is on other medication as well and is not very active due to the aches and pains. He has been suffering from dizzy spell, forgetfulness, and confusion recently as well. If anyone has any advise I would be very grateful.

Hi and welcome.

It sounds to me very like he needs to change his diet and seriously reduce his carbohydrate consumption (all carbs turn to sugar once in the system). If he does this, he should also lose weight. Weight loss will help enormously, and diet is the key to this. The main carb culprits are cereals, bread (all colours), rice (all colours), pasta (all colours) and potatoes, plus anything made with flour such as pastry and batter. He also needs to be careful with milk and fruits. If he does all this, he has a good chance of bringing his levels back down to single figures, and even much more normal figures.
