my husband has been a diabetic for a number of years and everything has been o.k but recently his blood test gave the doctor concern and he has been put on sitagliptin as well as his other meds. He was also been given a glucose monitor yesterday . His glucose level 20 mins before tea was 4.5 which I think is o.k.. After a meal of 3 slices of wholemeal bread and a little roast pork
( think about 60gms of carb )his level was 9.7 which I know is high so assume that the meal must be adjusted , however the real problem came this morning when before eating and after going at least 12 hours fasting over night his level was only down to 9.2.
Why was his level at 6pm after eating through the day alright but at 6pm this morning after fasting so high ? He had taken all his meds correctly . The nurse at the surgery we go to is nice but doesn't seem to know much about the nitty gritty of diabetes .
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have two comments. If you don't eat for some time your liver supplies sugar to keep you going. A non diabetic will deal with it as they would any meal but a diabetic may well get high blood sugar as your husband did.

Many diabetics find flour one of the things they must cut down on. It doesn't matter that it's wholemeal or any other type of thing. If it has flour in it you might be in a bit of trouble. In my case I couldn't even contemplate three slices of bread. Just one is risky.
