Type 1 Sugar levels ok but high ketones

My 7 year old son is autistic and has t1 diabetes he has been unwell with chickenpox his bg has been really high in the 20s and has had ketones which we are managing to keep down through giving him corrections every 2 hours and giving him more basal than normal, this morning his levels have went write back down but his ketones are 1.1 but he is eating and drinking checked an hour after food and insulin his levels are 8.2 and ketones are 1.6 is this something to worry about thank you :)

welcome to the forum. :)

the ketones can take a couple of days to flush from his system
lots of water if possible and continue monitoring as you have been doing.
1.6 is a bit of a worry -- if they rise any further I would suggest ringing 111 for advice

Hi and thanks for your reply :)

His ketones have come down through correction and are now 0.3 but again his bg is a bit higher although not as high currently at 14.8 and coming down he seems a bit better in himself so hopefully he is on the mend and back to his normal self, he has only been diagnosed for 1 year so we are still learning
 
ok -- that is fab news on the ketones :)
0.3 is fine !!!

as your son most likely had a fever with the pox -- that will be pushing his BG levels up -- just continue what you have been doing

Hi, may I ask you about the chickenpox, because my son has diabetes type 1 and for 2 days he has 38.2 C° temperature and 1 spot on his neck, I think he's got chickenpox, because it started in his school, what are my actions now to be relating to his chickenpox?, can you give me advice, please?
 
Hi @spongebob 2, we on site cannot give health professional advice. I would suggest you contact your son's doctor.
And also contact his DSN to discuss a sickness plan - what to do with his insulin if he continues to be unwell.
Certainly my sickness plan includes what to do about the bolus does, corrections etc PLUS how to alter the basal (long-acting insulin or basal pump doses) as well.
