Sugar levels

Hello,
I am on metformin and my sugar levels when self testing have been around 7.6 now i have just tested and it is at 4.8 is this ok, because i have a headache for 3 days and feel tired all the time and feel a bit sick. I don't know if these symptoms are anything to do with it but i thought i had best put it in. Sorry for spelling.

A level of 4.8 is fine, it's better than 7.6 actually, but it shouldn't go below 4 just in case. If you aren't feeling well maybe you have been eating less, this would be why it's lower? Do you have ketone strips to test for ketones if you are unwell?

You might just have an infection or something, but it wouldn't hurt to speak to a doctor about your symptoms.
 
How long have you been on Metformin? Nausea can be a side effect at the beginning, so it might be something to do with that. if so, it will pass. If it gets too bad, see your doctor again.

It seems you BG levels are beginning to come down, so well done!

Darling that all depends on if you are on medication or not and what you're eating throughout the day.
 
i am on medication im on actos 15mg once a day i had 2 slices of brown bread with cold meat and coleslaw and i cudnt eat my tea as i was feeling sick and my sugar levels were 13.5 my doctor never told me much abt it i kno i need help or some advice on it
 
Make an appointment with you GP and ask for your medication to be changed, ask about metformin for starters.
Also, Keep a diary of your blood sugar results - waking (fasting), before and 2nd after each meal, and before bed. Take this to your GP if they are still high.
And also have a look at the diet forums on here, for ideas on how to improve your diet, there are probably some improvements you can make even if they are only little ones.
 
Don't feel stupid. This forum is here for you to ask questions. If we can help, then we will. Doctors don't give you enough information and you are left to cope with it on your own. With the information on here I have helped myself get much better results, I'm not perfect and still go off the rails now and then.

I agree with the others, You need to see your GP and make him/her listen. Don't go home with unanswered questions.

There is A LOT of information here in the forum as well, just type what you want to know in the search field and read through the posts This really is the best place for all your extra questions. Just don't quit your medication without your GP's instructions

thannk you for your advise i went to see the doc i am metaphormine now i hve to take 1 with my breakfast for the first wk and thn take 2 the wk after to hw it goes im on 500mg
 
Read the leaflet in the packet carefully. Side effects are quite common when you first start, including wind and diarrhoea :shock: which is why they start you on one and increase the dose gradually. Taking it during your meal should help.

Side effects should soon settle down; if they don't, or you really can't bear it, go back to the doctor and ask for the slow release version.

I'm on 3 x 500g per day now, and the side-effects have completely settled. Mind you, I have a cast-iron digestion :lol:

Since being diagnosed just under 2 years ago my blood sugar has been out of control and never really went below 10. Even the Byetta injection didn't help when taking this with 2 glipizide in the morning. However, 4 weeks ago I started eating better and have managed to lose 12lbs so far. The last few days, however, my blood sugar was been 4.1/4.4 and today two hours after my porridge was 3.9 and I'm a bit worried. Its never been that low before, ever, even after fasting. It went back up to 7.5 after lunch though.
 
Isn't it strange that we do all we can to reduce our bg readings and when we succeeed we panic?

I have recently been through the same thing so I know how you feel .

Now that you have lost weight and improved your diet you probably need to see your GP to adjust?reduce your medication.

I know hat my reaction with similar readings was to overcompensate and eat something which made y readings sky high. A common reaction I think.

Hope you get it sorted soon.
