Hi All.
Am wondering what suitable trick and treat "treats" are best for the forthcoming
halloween.
When the kids are celebrating this yearly event...

I was actually asked this question today at an insulin user's support group I attended
by a lady who's sister has 2 young sons both type1's.
She was wanting to treat them both to some thing suitable etc.

I found myself quite limited with suitable options and have wondered about this fact since.
Does anyone have any ideas with regards to this.

Anna.

I offer the youngsters a choice of some fruit of a few colouring pencils in a pkt.

I give my daughter sweets rather than chocolate as chocolate seems to make her high a few hours later but sweets eaten straight after a meal don't cause any problems for her.

I usually give the children some fun stickers, colouring pencils, funky erasers or sharpeners, hair slides if its girls, little bracelets, funky socks, gloves, pocket books, anything like that and always a little bag with coins with that, I know its treat or tricks, but I really, really dont want to give fruit or chocolates or sweets. For all I know the little ones might have a food allergy or other issues.

My children are allowed to eat anything that I can work out the carbs. The only stipulation is that they eat any sweets / cakes as part of a meal replacing a pudding, this way they get to enjoy the treats and not feel left out, I can also work it into a meal so they get a mix of fast and slow acting carbs. I do the same at Xmas.

Hi All...
This morning I got set up for the kiddies treats for tomorrow night.
Bought yo-yo's, various small halloween toys, pkts of crayons/mini note pads, mini boxes of raisins
hair clips [girls] bright blue mini cars [boys], balloons and some mini satsumas .
Plus pkts of haribo sweeties - for the non-diabetic kiddies...
All bought from our local market and home town stores.
Returned home chuffed with my finds and feel well prepared now!
The lady I mentioned in my OP is calling in tonight to collect 2 bags I have done
for her nephews.
She was very impressed and is thinking of joining us all here as a member.
Its great to spread the word and have such a positive response

I'm not sure about things which can easily be given out at the door but there are lots of options for fun party food if you google halloween party food there are lots of savory ideas as well as the shaped biscuits and cupcakes.

Cut a hot dog sausage in two, dip the cut end in a little ketchup and stick a flaked almond into the other end for severed fingers or how about mummified saugsages. Wrap chipolata sausages in strips of bread dough or puff pastry and bake.

Popcorn always seems to go dowm well at my kids parties, we make a sauce with a little butter and suagr and last year I added a few drops of red food colour for blood flavour popcorn.

These jelly squares were a big hit at DDs last party and were made with a sugar free jellies. I think they would be firm enough to cut into fun shapes too http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=32066
