Hi everyone,
I'm super happy and just want to share:
Diagnosed in February this year, I felt so lost and shocked. But I researched a lot, made connections and learned a lot.
Things have been improving more and more.
I've joined facebook groups, athletes with diabetes groups.
I wasn't able to find the same kind of connections in Korea, until I found a fitness instructor who is very open about her T1D. I got in touch with her and we started the first Korean group for T1d people interested in exercise on instagram - @Wholepeopleteam_Korea
I also found the Korean Society for T1 Diabetes and got in touch with them too.
I'm also helping to make an overview of the costs and insurance contributions towards cgms, sensors, pumps and supplies like test strips and make it more understandable and in English too.
Then I went to the hospital today and got my HbA1c results back:
Diagnosed in feb with 12.1%
down to 10.1 by March 6th
today, May 18th - 5.9%!!!

I'm so so so incredibly happy!!!
and to make things even better, when I got home, my PumpPeelz stickers for my Dexcom G5 and my RoadID bracelet arrived too!
Just an absolutely amazing day

Sorry, had to celebrate ^.^

Well done, you must be so pleased.

I found out I had diabetes at a similar time to you but unfortunately my appointment where I was going to be tested for type 1 got cancelled due to Covid19 situation. I have been told i'll be called for blood tests in the next week or so.

I have read several of your posts over the past few months as I suspect I may turn out to be LADA too. Like you I am very into fitness and have taught group exercise for 14 years. BMI of 19.7 so no weight issues.

It's so good to read that you are doing so well and managing to continue with all the fitness. It gives me so much hope that if I do need to go onto Insulin that I can do it and continue with my existing lifestyle. My biggest fear is having to giving up my fitness.

Thank you so much for telling me this!
It makes me so happy I can actually inspire people even without being a pro athlete
I can tell you, and I know I felt the same at the start, but taking insulin is no issue. You get used to it qui. Especially at LADA where you still got some insulin left - I'm currently on 6 to 8 units a day (depending on planned exercise or rest time etc), split between 4-5 mornings and 2-3 in the evening after training.
For a while I really struggled especially when I couldn't exercise. Exercise dropped my bg so I largely controlled my levels via low carb food and staying active, but I managed to injure myself a while back (and now again, quite possibly not enough rest...ahem) so then I struggled, but found ways to cope now too.

What I do recommend is to push for a cgm or self fund. It's a game changer. It gives me a lot of security in training and especially cycling is still dangerous for me (well, when I get to cycle again...thanks hip flexor).
But you find food that works. Gatorade, haribos...for me I now found chocolate milk 15 to 30mins before cycling gets me home almost safely....etc.

So, yep you will be able to exercise despite insulin, you got this ^.^
Feel free to pm any time if you want to chat, happy to meet more diabuddies ^.^

Thanks, I think I'll definitely have lots of questions if I turn out to be LADA. Just good to know there are people out there with diabetes who are able to continue with the active lifestyle.
Don't get me wrong I love walking and yoga etc....but I would miss not being able to do the more high intensity stuff.
Anyway you are doing fab and should be so proud of yourself.

Do not ever apologise for needing to celebrate anything... Especially if it's about your health improving!

Well done! Great news, and not just for you - all the people that will be in your groups will benefit too.
