so i will be going on holiday on the 12th september for 6 weeks, and i test about 5 times a day so im expecting to test a bit more while im away outside uk, and i need to have about 8 boxes of strips, im going to the gp and wednesday so that will include the days before my holiday aswell as i dont wanna go back a second time.. so will it be ok to order that many boxes, cause i know some drs can be a bit funny about the amount of strips you used

Take twice everything you need, ie for 12 weeks away, plus prescriptions and letter from you GP for airport security, etc.

If you're seeing your GP tomorrow, you can always have the discussion, and agree how it's going to go. Whilst it may seem you want a lot on one prescription, the fact you will then be away for several weeks means you can't be ordering in that period, so it should even out?

I'm not T1, but believe my next comment is still valid.

In your shoes, I would be asking for at least some additional supplies, just in case you need to test a bit more whilst you are away. I have travelled a lot, in the 22 months since diagnosis, and I now understand what jet lag, long haul and time shifts do to my system, but it can take a few days for your body to adjust, no matter how well you understand it. As a T2, not on any medication, clearly, I just have to sit these few days out and manage my diet sensibly, but as a T1, you may not necessarily have that option, and therefore need to do additional tests and/or adjustments.

I often also read of T1s suggesting you take additional supplies, as a matter of course, and distributing them around you, and your companion/husband/partner's luggage too to provide some form of buffer against baggage going even temporarily astray.

I hope you enjoy your extended break. Where are you off to?

I spend a lot of time outside the uk.

I have a good doctor, and either just build up several months, or get two or three months supplies from them in one go.
Even though I'm type 2, I'm prescribed 100 strips a month, so I do have a good stock on hand now.
But normally they won't object if you tell them you're going on holiday, and they'll prescribe accordingly even if you haven't built up any spare stock.

The doc should allow you to take 3 months supply on one prescription no questions asked, if you tell him/her you're going away.

We go away for 4/5 months every year so I get a script for 3 months before we leave, our daughter puts a repeat in for me 3 months after the last one and posts it out if neccessary. They are only allowed to give 3 months at one go, I assume the NHS are trying to stop drugs being sent out of the country to non-UK residents.
