I’m diabetic type 1, Since 1995 I was on humulin M3, but last month consultants put me on Novomix 30, is about month now and I’m taking twice insulin 46 Units morning and 28 Units evening also taking notes of my blood test everyday, can anyone give me their experience about Novomix 30.
At moment I’m suffering from my blood test every day different up and now. Lowest 3.2, and highest 15.0 is that normal?

Hi @Surendra Sharma ,

Warm welcome to the forum.

Would you like me (or another moderator team member.) to move your thread to a more appropriate sub-fora?
You may well get a more productive answers from members on the same regime as yourself...

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Surendra. If you are finding BS control difficult with the mixed insulin then you probably need to move to the Basal/Bolus (aka MDI) insulin regime. This involves two insulins and 4 to 5 injections per day. This is the standard regime for T1s and enables you to adjust your insulin for each mealtime carbs. Are you based in the UK or elsewhere?

Humalin M3 contains 30% soluable (fast acting) insulin and 70% isophane (intermediate) insulin.

Novomix 30 contains 30% insulin aspart (fast acting) and 70% long acting.

So M3 and novomix are essentially the same thing.

Are you carb counting? A mixed insulin regime requires a constant and particular intake of carbs. If you are going up to 15/20 that suggests the carbs eaten is more than your insulin dose can handle. If you are dropping down to 3.2 that suggests you have missed a necessary carby snack time or not had enough carbs with your previous meal. You need to work out how many grams of carbs your insulin wants for breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner and bedtime snack and stick to those levels of carbs every day and the timings of food.

A mixed insulin regime isn't recommend for type 1s in the UK who should be treated with basal/bolus insulin. Any particular reason you are on mixed insulin?

Thanks for your advice, my BG is in control now after a month. This morning reading was 8.1 , and afternoon 6.7 feeling better.
Thanks
