GP doctor's !!! Except my current Doctor who has been looking after me for the past 10 months.
Help please, anyone had this horrible sweetness in mouth? If I eat or drink anything sweet it makes me nearly sick and to eat savoury gives a nasty taste in mouth and feelings of sickness. BG hit 20.2 before bed two nights ago, 11.3 in morning. Hit 19.3 next night and down to 11.2 in morning. Am taking 2 x 500mg Metformin slow release. Diagnosed 2 years ago. Just coming off Steroids for a neck problem and perhaps this has complicated things. Middle of March had a full check up at the surgery, and told everything fine, weight the same, all sugars okay, feet pulse okay in fact well controlled diabetes. Only 4 weeks and I am now having big problems.
Heart problem has caused massive weight gain (fluid) 6lbs in 3 days. Usual water tablet not working well. Dr now added another water tablet so I take both before I eat or take Metformin, this has reduced weight by 6lbs in 3 days and now another 3lbs in 4 days. Ankles and feet not so swollen, but sweetness and high BG remains. Any pointers please, seeing my GP next week

Re: Sweet taste in mouth & extremely high BG's

Not trying to be unduly pessimistic, but something similar happened to me last October. I went from good control with gliclazide (metformin always made me ill) to really high figures in about two weeks. The diabetic nurse and doctor got together and decided my pancreas had more or less packed up. Within a couple of days I was on insulin, which was a bit of a shock! I then had a month of being useless while we got my insulin doses up to the right amount, another couple of months of struggling with learning about carb counting, but now my sugars are really good, injecting is routine, and I feel better than I have for ages.

Mind you, I didn't have the heart or weight problems, so there may be something else at work here. It could well be something going wrong with your other drugs. But with blood sugar levels like that, something needs to be done pretty quickly. Good luck at the doctors!
