My son has achieved his level 2 swimming cirtificate and 10 meter badge this evening. Swimming has not come easy to him and he has had to work very hard. I am so very proud of him.

I believe that achievement large, small, easily gained or not should be celebrated. Not everything comes easily to everyone as we are all individual and some have to fight harder for things than others. Having fought harder however sometimes means that we appreciate our achievments so much more.

So lets not judge each other on how quickly we achieve our goals. Instead encourage and praise for effort as well.

Tenacity is a trait to be proud of and something that we all have to draw on at times.

WELL DONE MY SON!!!!

Congratulations and well done from me. Thats a great achievement and what a proud household you have this evening :D

Well done your lad

Congratulations to your son! He's a far better swimmer than me. I can't even doggie paddle.

Thanks RRB, Nigel and Didie :D

Didie he could barely do doggie paddle 6 mnths ago! He has never been scared of the water but is a big lad ( not obese ) but tall and solid. His co-ordination had always been a challenge and has never been and will never be dainty! (he is a farmers son!) :)

I am terrified of the water, having been thrown in the deep end a swimming pool at the age of 6 and having to be hauled out half-drowned. I learned to sort of doggie paddle at the ripe old age of 40, but panic when I get water on my face.

I think thats one of the hardest things to overcome. If you are confidsent in the water you are half way there. I am not scared of the water but am not a strong swimmer. I just want him to enjoy it and be safe in the water. It happening at such a youg age would have made it more difficult.
