Hi all

I wondered if people would share their experiences with me.

I have a three year old son for the last few weeks he has displayed some of the following but not every day. Drinking excessively e.g. over 4pints of fluid. He literally finishes one cup and asks for another immediately.Weeing excessively but this could be linked to the drinking. He is also showing some completely uncharacteristic behaviours where he is uncontrollable and hitting and kicking then sobbing. Looking at some of the diabetes info some of these are symptoms but they aren't occurring every day. I took him to the doctors new years eve with a urine sample but by then he had already consumed a large amount of fluid. They said there was no glucose in his urine and that their pin prick testing machine was broke so monitor it and if still worried bring him back next week.
I've noticed that on days he goes to nursery there doesn't seem to be a problem but then there is a regular breaks for food and snacks throughout the day. I tried to think back to the bad days and what he has eaten and can't remember so I'm trying to give him regular healthy snacks throughout the day to see if this helps and so far so good.
I have no idea if this is the right thing to do but do you think I'm right to be concerned? Can anyone share their childs symptoms with me?
I have another appointment booked for next Friday first thing in the morning so I'm hoping to take a better sample this time.

Hi my daughter is 9 & was diagnosed 6months ago. The first i suspected was when she wet the bed, something she had never done even when potty training. It happened a few times. She was also quite lethargic on occasion & bad behaviour out of character. She drank a lot & had been complaining of sore heads for quite some time(i thought she was needing sone extra attention, now i knw this is how she is when she is having a hypo). I suspected diabetes & was pretty worried she also had a weird smell on her breath & was very up n dwn. Whole waiting for appt at drs it ended up with her needing an emergency appt at drs as she had slept most of the weekend. When we went to drs she seemed bright so dr didnt really believe me but with my insistence asked us to leave a urine sample. To drs surprise(not mine) she called me back within the hour as urine test was positive. Dr then was very good & saw us for blood test within the hour. In the end it ended up with an ambulance to hospital the next day as she had deteriorated. She is doing fab now but just shows mothers instinct & insistence is usually right.

Go and get your child tested straight away, it might not be anything but my 10 year old son was diagnosed in December i took him simply because he had lost a significant amount of weight in 2 months, and was drinking excessively they were his only symptoms. If it is Diabetes Type 1 you want a diagnosis as soon as possible but i hope for you that isn't the case.
