Anyone seen this? It's an n=1 experiment, but he set it up really well. The higher carb meals he ate were all proper, whole carb foods.

Posting it here on T-1 because the Low Carb forum guys are mainly the converted.

It was posted on DietDoctor, but unlike much of Andreas's recent stuff, isn't campaigning. This is just one T-1's experiment which he documented for himself and for others' information.

Yes, I've seen that one @LucySW and it reflects my experiences. Remove the carbs and the roller coaster becomes more of a train ride.

That's my experience too Tim (with Libre data).

I like his reporting on how he felt with high/low, high/low rollercoaster. It makes me feel awful - I get exhausted. And depressed, which he also describes.

Good blogpost, isn't it.

Yes it's definately more effort with carbs I agree, I find with eating low carb that it's easier to manage the highs and lows, less spikes which ultimately can cause more long term damage. I also find I have less hypos, I had one yesterday my first in about 12 days, eating carbs I was having 2-3 hypos a week as well as numerous correction doses.

However in favour of carbs, I found a couple of months ago that I was out for the evening on a hen do and ate 4 slices of pizza, had a few wines, danced till about 2am and woke the next day at 8 mmol/l, this was the only time carbs have worked favourably for me, obviously the exercise helped too !!

I've never really eaten what you would call a high-carb diet (going by the blog article) except when I was on twice daily injections and had to snack between meals, even then I doubt I was ever much above 250g of carbs a day.

It makes sense to eat carbs in moderation and I'm not surprised he faired much better on 140g a day than 313g, I don't technically low-carb at around 180g a day but it's still a good third below the RDA for a man.

Hmm that's rather interesting... I just had a look at my diabetes connect reports for the last couple of months and I'm apparently averaging 125g Carbs per day, that's not including carbs from protein (you know what I mean) but does include any low BS corrections... Shudder to think how much of a roller coaster I'd be on if I ate more carbs!

It's surprising how many carbs you do eat without realising once you start counting them.
