T1 and contraception question (so.. for the girls!)

Hi guys (well girls mostly I guess  )

I'm a T1 and I'm on the pill. I always used to be on Microgynon which has always worked fine for me. However, a year ago my GP decided that it was better for me being a diabetic to go onto the minipill (called Cerazette). Apparently it's meant to be better because it only has one hormone in it instead of two and my GP said it could be better for more steady levels.

The problem is that I'm really not liking this pill! My cycles have become really irregular (sometimes there's 4 months in between and sometimes only 1.5 weeks) and they last nearly twice as long as before, and I've started to get really bad breakouts of spots especially on my face and back. Now, I've tried to sit it out at least a year but none of it has changed and to be fair I'd really like to go back onto my 'normal' pill.

I was just wondering if any of you are still on Microgynon and do you notice anything with your levels?

Well, firstly, it is 10 years since I was on the pill...but even then the GP was insistent that it was the micropill. I took it with relatively few problems.

My friend (not diabetic) hated Cerazette as well, for the same reasons as you.

Could you ask your GP for an alternative mini pill? Like I say, it is many years since I was on anything similar..but there was a choice, I assume there still is? I used to take Micronor.

I was on Microgynon for about 3 years, no one ever said I shouldn't have it as a T1 and I never had any problems with it! xx

Thanks Maggie!

I spoke to my DSN this morning and she also said there should be no reason why I can't stay on Microgynon. Made an appointment with the GP for next week to change back :)

I was on microgynon before i got pregnant the 1st time (it fortunately failed on me)... and again before i got pregnant 2nd time with absolutely no problems with diabetes :)
