Last night was my first drinking session after my diagnosis a few months ago. I dosed down on the Lantus and Novarapid as instructed and had a fairly substantial meal when I got in. Worst part is I didn't even wake up. 2 question, why do we hypo easily after alcohol and how low does my blood have to go before I wake up?

Thanks

1) usually your liver trickles out a stream of glucose to keep you going where not eating. This is why we take a background insulin. But your liver can't multi task. It only does one thing at a time. If it's busy dealing with the alcohol, it's not trickling out glucose. That why alcohol can cause a hypo a few hours later.

2) how low you have to go before you wake up really depends on how good your hypo awareness is. Your awareness to everything, including hypo symptoms, is going to impaired if you are drunk and asleep.
