I’ve had mental health issues (mainly depression) officially diagnosed since I was 18, although I do think I suffered for a couple of years before that, I’m 27 now. Of course with that came many hospital admissions for DKA and just generally not looking after my diabetes the way I should do.
I’m not going to sit here and say it’s all sunshine and rainbows now because it isn’t and I don’t think it ever will be but I think having the right support is crucial. I would speak to your diabetes team and see if you can have more regular appointments with them (I saw my nurse around once a month at my worst), I’d also look into speaking to your GP if you haven’t already and see if you can talk to someone.
One thing that was beneficial to me but I don’t know if everyone has access to it is a diabetes psychologist, I was referred to one via my hospital so I’d see if that is also an option.
And lastly, don’t be so hard on yourself, diabetes is difficult in itself let alone also dealing with mental health issues alongside it.
