Hi All,

As some of you know I'm trying my hardest through trial and error to work out what foods work for me in order to reduce my HbA1c.

Some of the things people have said to avoid I'm avoiding and have found better alternatives that don't cause spikes so I'm getting there slowly. Other food works for me but not others. There's a query I could use some advice on...

Yesterday I had 50g pasta with tuna, cucumber and lettuce for lunch. I spilt my bolus dose as previously suggested by my DSN when eating pasta. I took 30% of the dose 30 mins before I ate and spilt the remaining 70% an hour after the 1st dose. My BG remained stable according to my libre and my BS reading 2 and 4 hours later. Today I had the same salad and 100g couscous (20g) carbs, similar to yesterday. I didn't spilt my bolus.

Would anybody recommend always splitting my lunch bolus because I've tried with various other foods and the trend is a spike after lunch. I've also increased my basal for that period (adjusted to 11am dose) before trying the pasta spilt dose.

Thank you

I find splitting my bolus works well for foods that have a low GI, or have a high fat content.

For everything else which is medium to high GI - I take the whole bolus upfront and in advance of starting my meal.

Whether you're on MDI or use an insulin pump, the above is applicable. But like everything, it's a lot to do with how your BG reacts, what your eating and other external variables such as exercise, stress, illness, etc.
