Hi,
Ive recently been diagnosed with T2 two weeks ago. I spent most of last year in hospital with acute pancreatitis, also nine weeks in a coma where I almost died.
I am now hopefully on the mend. Before I went into hospital I was 15 stone when I came out I was 8.5 had to learn to walk again also eat again. My problem being i'm still only 10.5 stone & need to put at least two stone so how do I watch my carb & sugar intake.....any ideas.

Hi Simon
I am also a skinny diabetic though not because of health problems .It is difficult to gain weight without eating the stodge :!:
I eat lots of cream and creamy sauces I used to eat plenty of cheese but at the moment I have to restrict that because of a high calcium reading but that should be ok for you .Do you test your BGs after meals ,you really need to do this so that you can tell how certain foods affect your BGs I can manage a few pulses like lentils in soup but you need to test because we are all different .The things you need to eat are high calorie but low carb .Search the shops for full fat everything .The GP did prescribe me a product called Calogen on the advice of the dietician which did help me put some weight on ,it is literally liquid fats and tastes like lard but it is worth a try if your GP will prescribe it .
Hope that helps a little

Nuts are pretty good too. I eat loads to maintain weight, particularly walnuts. They do have carbs though, although low GI, so do BG tests to see what you can stand. And don't eat cashews; not really nuts and high in carbs.
