Hi All. Please do any of you know why this happened? My fasting BGs have been quite good (I think) ranging from 5.4 - 5.9 since being diagnosed 8 weeks ago and following a strict low carb high fat diet and exercise. Not on any medication. It is my day off today ... got up at 9.45 had coffee with splash of semi skimmed milk and no breakfast. Went to post office then came back and mowed my garden (well actually it could have been a setting for a David Attenborough episode) which was quite physical. Came back in after two hours feeling slightly shaky, so I thought my BG would be on the lower side (never had hypo) but to my horror it was 7.9 (it's not usually that after eating!!). Do you think my liver dumped the glucose in response to the physical exercise or could it be something else. I realise I should have tested my fasting to get a better idea but I have been doing so well (or so I thought).

I think strenuous exercise is likely to put up blood sugars whereas for me gentle exercise lowers them. So I don't think it's anything to worry about. Well done on your normal fasting readings. I also find pain or illness raises my levels, but I'm still learning.

Thank you so much for that, the gym does not have that effect on me really so I am using this as my go to excuse now GARDENING IS BANNED BECAUSE IT RAISES MY BLOOD SUGARS! hee hee

But it is probably good in the long term!

My levels always go up after a workout. My diabetes nurse calls this a 'false high', in the sense that it's a just a liver dump, as you suggested.

Feeling shaky is probably from not having any food in you, or not enough water.
