Hi, I’m a t2 (diagnosed in January 2018) slim build- tested for keytones in urine so know its not t1. I was on glycoside and metformin and have managed to control my diet enough to come off most of the drugs. I’ve now been doing an 800 cal diet for 3.5 weeks. My blood bg is down to normal levels in the mornings which is great and i’ve now stopped taking my metformin but I’m not sure how long to stay on the diet....whether I should go for the full 8 weeks etc. I’ve lost 6lbs but my weight has stabilised. Also if I have a bad nights sleep my BG is high in the mornings regardless of what I’ve eaten the night before. I’d love to reverse my diabetes but as its not weight related there doesn’t seem to be a lot of information out there. Any advice would be great!

I, too, am slim and when I was diagnosed in April of this year, I started LCHF, despite my doctor's anxious cry of, " but you haven't got any weight to lose." I lost 9 pounds and have stabilised at 8st 2lbs which is still inside the normal BMI range. My blood glucose readings are reasonable, usually 5s and 6s. I don't count calories but I do try to have a period of intermittent fasting during the day ( no breakfast, e.g.). Perhaps LCHF with IF might suit you better.

KatieLou - Not all T2s carry weight as you are finding. You might be interested to read Richard Doughty's story. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/apr/23/diabetes-can-you-really-eat-to-beat-it

if Professor Taylor is correct about his theory on the personal fat threshold, the need for huge weight loss isn't necessarily required. The only thing is, nobody knows where their thrershold lies.

Hi Katie if you're not trying to lose weight why stick the diet out for the full 8 weeks. :banghead:

Just adopt a healthier eating life style LCHF is one example which avoids the foods which raise you blood sugar levels. Many of us happy control our blood sugar levels by avoiding the foods that are bad for us and embracing the ones which are good for us as diabetics.

And never have to count a single calorie.
Ever! ;)
