T2 - Snacks in-between meals?

As a newly (relatively speaking) diagnosed T2 diabetic I am trying to get my head around the question of how often to eat. My BG never seems to drop too low - so my focus is on trying to ensure it isn't raised more often/for no longer than it needs to be.

If, generally speaking, it can take 2 hours for BG to fall after a meal isn't it better for me to stick to just eating three meals a day with no snacking in between? That way the BG will only spike 3 times a day for up to 2 hours, whereas if I snack in-between it is going to spike more often.

I quite like snacking in-between meals, even if only on fruit, but it occurred to me that I might be as well eating the fruit at meal time so I encounter a single, two hour spike.
 
I don't tend to snack between meals but some underweight type 2's do to keep themselves from losing too much weight,(I don't have that problem, unfortunately!) I like to eat nuts in the evening to calm down the 'dawn effect' in the morning.
 
Interesting that you mention nuts - you find that they keep your dawn BG lower? Why would that be do you think? I could eat Cashews all day long - although that probably wouldn't be a very good idea.
 
Now cachews and peanuts are quite high in carbs actually.The point of eating,in my case,nuts is to give the stomach something to work on ,you could also have cheese ,meat,any protein snacks.
 
Pork scratchings.
Those little marmite flavoured mini cheeses.
Almonds.
Macadamia nuts.
A spoonful of really good peanut butter, preferably not Sun Pat as that is more carbs.

All the above (not at the same time...) works for me.

I don't think a well controlled T2, not using insulin, needs to snack. However being human, snacking is tempting and shouldn't be allowed to push up the BG. I keep salami and ham (Very thin sliced) in the fridge and nuts.Carrot sticks, raw cauliflower, cucumber, celery sticks, lettuce. cabbage stalks. Peperami is another good one. It also makes a good raining aid for the dogs.
Slivers of cheese. The list is long. If you are diet controlled or using Metformin alone, you won't get lows. It's highs you need to avoid.

My problem is that I have days where I am not hungry enough to have a meal so I graze. I am out of macadamia nuts tho. :cry:

When I' home by myself, with just the animals, I graze too. i try to plan my grazing.
 
My favourite snacks...

Pickled cockles/mussels
Peppered beef jerky
Any strong blue cheese with crackers
Crab paste
Smoked clams
Olives
Sun dried tomatoes
Hummous
Tzatsiki
Pistachio nuts
Tortilla chips with hot salsa
Anchovies

There are many more but my mouth is watering and it's not even breakfast time! None of the above seem to make much difference to my BG levels.
 
I'm terrible for snacking when I'm in the house. At the moment I'm out of work and other than going for a run in the mornings have little to do so drink endless cups of tea, browse the internet (I don't like TV) graze on just about anything I can find and still feel hungry through boredom. I have days where all I seem to do is nibble. Mainly fruit or nuts, but occasionally crisp breads and cottage cheese.

They should be plentiful again - the price is going through the roof. They've gone from about £1.25 per 100 g to £2.25 in a few months. You lot have obviously increased the demand & pushed the price up.

I live on brazils.
