I have recently been diagnosed with T2D as my HbA1C came back with 10.1% and my random glucose level were 312 and 296 on 06th August. My doctor started me on Glimepiride + Metformin + Voglibose and yesterday only after 10 days of starting treatment for myperglycemia, my Fasting levels decreased to 76 and random to 108. I am suspecting that my T2B is results of treatment I received for my hypertension, I suffered a minor attack when my bllod pressure spiked to level of 196/127 on 7 May 2022. The doctor from whom I received the treatment for my hypertension at that time kept me on Bisoprolol 5 mg for 3 months and I have read online that patients taking Beta Blockers have 50% more chances of getting T2B. If anyone other than me suffered the simmilar problem can they share if they were able to reverse these effect of Beta Blockers and thus have controlled their Sugar levels without medications. Also everyone is free to share their ideas as how to reduce the dependency on medication to control sugar level. I am 5'6", 74 KG, BMI of 26, 40 Y-F, with daily routine of 15000 steps brisk walk and on Zero Oil diet.

Hi, and welcomr to the Forum. You are not in the UK it seems, so for the benefit of UK members, Glimepiride is an original sulfonylurea med that increases the pancreas insulin output. Voglibose is similar to Metformin in that it prevents the breakdown of complex carbs into glucose. Neither of these are commonly used in the UK..

As regards the beta blocker, Bisoprolol is usually prescribed as a cardio treatment since it alters the heart timings and thus reduces blood pressure and more inportantly back pressure against the valves. It lowers BP that is true, but is not normally prescribed just for that since there are others that do that job. I am on Bisoprolol, and I am a cardio patient. It does not seem to affect my blood sugar levels or insulin output. This study discusses the suspected link to diabetes in respect of Bisoprolol,
https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01066039
I would advise that if you need Bisoprolol as a heart treatment, then you should accept it as necessary. If however it is a general purpose BP treatment then there are other types of BP med, but they all have side effects.

With an HbA1c of 10% you are going to have to take steps to reduce the blood glucose levels significantly. There are many here on the Forum who have found success by changing diet to a low carb diet. If you have some time, then I recommend you read through some of the Testamonials and Success Stories section to see how effective it has been for others. It may indeed clear up your hypertension issues and bring your sugar levels under control. It works for me. But there are other solutions too. Dropping medications can be done, but there is no magic wand, I'm afraid. At 10% you are diabetic now, regardless of the why's. Now you need to think about the how's

I’ve recently (a couple of months or so ago) started taking Bisoprolol for Long Covid related heart issues. It’s not had any discernible effect on my blood sugars. I suspect that any correlation between those taking beta blockers and developing diabetes is likely to do with underlying metabolic health than any direct causation.

I started with an A1C of 108 or 12% and have maintained non-diabetic levels for five years using only dietary control, so it is definitely possible.
