can anyone suggest what things to go for and what things to stay away from when having either a Chinese or Indian take away

Tandooris, butter chicken. Even chappati is made with gram flour.

I get from the Indian lamb saag or tamarind, saag panir, sautéed ocra, and my one sin onion bhaji. From the Chinese special chow mein - I'm fine with a few noodles I eat all the lovely. veg and meat and a few noodles no sauce, sautéed bean sprouts, Chinese is more difficult than Indian I find, make sure the Chinese is msg free, that plays havoc with blood sugar.

I have never found Chinese is low carb friendly. Always covered with thick gloopy starchy stuff. I have eaten superb Chinese food, but all the local places go the cheap gunk route.

Indian, on the other hand - marvellous.
Avoid the fruity sauces, the sweet ones and the creamy ones. They have usually been sweetened with sugar (and even parsnip!). Avoid the potato, bread and rice, the pickles (full of sugar) and the poppadoms (although i often nibble a fragment).

Go for the drier dishes. You may be fine with dahl and lentils (i am not).

If i eat these dishes, my bg remains below 7 mmol/l
Chicken/lamb shaslik
Butter chicken
Kebaby type things
Tandoori (dry)
Anything tomato, pepper, onion based
Saag paneer
Brinjal bhaji
Okra bhaji
Onion bhaji

I used to love dhansak, but it no longer loves me...

Chinese tonight for my sons 20th, he has autism and will only eat out at certain places, I decided to be mindfully naughty haha. First off I had my first cocktail in 5 years, a Bellini - was delish, then to the Chinese - shared a half Peking duck with hubby for starter, no pancakes for me but lettuce for wraps with a tiny amount of sauce and cucumber and spring onion, my usual special chow mein, 2 glasses of Pinot - before 4.9 1 hr 7.9 2hr 6.3 just now about 3.5 hrs 4.7 - this is a tried and tested meal for me apart from the cocktail - very happy with that, they had ice cream at the Italian parlour, I had one spoonful of hubby's ice cream.

Most of the places we eat are owned by family or friends so I am lucky that I can be specific in what I want but to be honest I don't deviate too much from the menu.
